Cruise To Revive Van Helsing?
There seems to be no end in sight as far as Universal green lighting reworks are concerned. Most recently, they made public their intentions to revamp the hugely successful ‘Mummy’ franchise, originally by director Stephen Sommers.
Now.. another of his big budget monster movies is being taken in a fresh direction. Admittedly, the original take on the vampire hunter character from 2004 starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale was hardly well received in critical circles or by audiences.
Already in place are the screenwriting duo of Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, who are also taking responsibility for perfecting the script for the new installment of ‘The Mummy’. So, plenty of faith being shown!
The real swerve however, has come courtesy of A list juggernaut Tom Cruise. It has been confirmed that the success of a revival will rest firmly on his shoulders, as he will be on producer duties and also star in the film.
First impressions suggest that Mr Cruise is a slightly leftfield choice for such fare but being so action orientated, it may not prove to be too beyond Hollywood’s resident adrenaline junkie!
