Kimmel vs Fallon: The 2017 Awards Host-Off
In recent years the Academy have turned towards established film and television personalities to take the reigns of the Oscar telecast, with wildly mixed reaction among its consistently decreasing audience. Meanwhile the Golden Globes, since reintroducing a host in 2010, has stuck to its strategy of using stars who cut their cloth in comedy.
This year the two biggest awards shows of the year have two very evenly matched comperes in Jimmy Fallon (Globes) and Jimmy Kimmel (Oscars), so which show are you most excited about watching?
We thought we would break it down and, it turns out, we can’t split them up either.
There’s little to choose between them. Both are fortysomething late night US TV hosts with previous Emmy hosting experience and nothing else. Both are comedians. Both lack the international appeal of previous hosts, and both have been met by a wave of positive reaction and support.
The Golden Globes are being held on Sunday January 8th 2017
The Academy Awards are being held Sunday February 26th 2017
