The Gentlemen Season Two Reportedly in the Works
There have been various television spinoffs of Guy Ritchie’s films over the years, but none have been met with quite as much positivity as The Gentlemen. The Theo James-led offering had a lot of the same features as the 2019 movie but came with its own unique storylines as well.
The Netflix series was released in March 2024, and later that year, the streaming service confirmed that there will be a second season. Netflix is notoriously ruthless when it comes to scrapping failing shows, so this is a good sign that Ritchie’s offering has a bright future.
Series Was an Excellent Film Spinoff
There was initially a lot of scepticism around The Gentlemen when it was first released. Although the film of the same name was considered a return to form for Ritchie, it was still nowhere near as good as some of the director’s best works. On top of that, there were questions about whether a small-screen adaptation would capture the same energy as the original.
The series ended up being a pleasant surprise, and many would argue that it’s better than the source material. It introduced a ton of new characters and some incredible comedic moments that were lacking in the big-screen offering. Thanks to the extended format, it meant that Ritchie could explore a wider range of storylines as well. This worked nicely, with everything tying back to the main plot perfectly. James proved to be a great lead too, offering something completely different to Matthew McConaughey’s protagonist in the 2019 title.
Vinnie Jones One of the Highlights
One of the best things about The Gentlemen was the inclusion of Vinnie Jones, who was playing against type. The former footballer and well-known hardman took on the role of gamekeeper at Halstead Manor, and he played it in a much warmer fashion than viewers are used to.
Jones rose to fame as a formidable tough guy in Ritchie’s early offerings, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch. His performances in these films propelled his career, earning him roles in major Hollywood pictures such as Gone in Sixty Seconds and Swordfish.
Jones has become such a recognisable figure in entertainment that he’s even branched out into other content outside of film. In recent years, he has had his own reality show, Vinnie Jones in the Country, and has even appeared in the roulette online game, Vinnie Jones Roulette.
What do We Know About Season Two?
There’s not much known about season two of The Gentlemen yet, other than the fact that it will start filming in 2026. Netflix has said that there will be a late 2026 release for the new instalment, but there’s a chance that it could even be pushed into 2027. That’s a long wait between seasons, and one that some critics could have a negative effect on the show’s future.
The Gentlemen was a surprise hit for Netflix, and one that deserves at least another season. It’s great news that this is coming, but it’s a shame that viewers will be made to wait so long between seasons.
