Nickey van Tooren Finds Comedy and Chaos in ‘Impossible and Unstoppable’

For Nickey van Tooren, building a career in Hollywood has never been about waiting for permission, it’s about creating the work, shaping the narrative, and stepping fully into characters that challenge both expectation and range.

A Netherlands-born actress raised in Dubai and now based in Los Angeles, van Tooren brings a distinctly international perspective to her craft. Bilingual in Dutch and English, and trained across multiple countries, she has developed a reputation for thoughtful preparation and a natural ability to move between tones, accents, and genres with ease. Whether grounded in emotional drama or leaning into heightened performance, her work is defined by intention, curiosity, and a clear commitment to character.

That versatility takes a playful turn in her latest project, Impossible and Unstoppable, a fan-made webisode inspired by the beloved animated series Kim Possible.

Blending action and comedy, the story reimagines the iconic duo in an unexpected chapter of their lives. Now newly married, Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable find themselves in couples therapy, only to discover that their latest mission may be unfolding in the most unlikely of places.

Van Tooren steps into the role of Ron Stoppable, opposite Doroteja Jurican’s Kim, while also serving as co-writer on the project alongside Jurican. Directed by Julio Ramos, the webisode leans into humor, nostalgia, and a clear love for the source material, while still giving its creators room to reinterpret the characters through a fresh lens.

“It was such a fun project,” van Tooren says. “Silly, passion-driven, and just full of joy. Everyone involved genuinely loved what we were making.”

That sense of enjoyment, however, came paired with a unique creative challenge, stepping into a character that audiences already know so well.

“Playing an existing character is tricky,” she explains. “You have to honor what people recognize, but still make it your own. I spent time really analyzing Ron’s behavior, his rhythms, his humor, and then finding a way to bring that into my version without just copying it.”

It’s a process that aligns closely with van Tooren’s broader approach to acting, one rooted in research, observation, and building from the inside out. Even in a comedic, high-energy format, the work begins with understanding the character at a fundamental level.

Filmed across a Los Angeles apartment and a local studio, the production maintained an intimate, collaborative energy, one that allowed for creative freedom and experimentation. But like many independent shoots, it also came with its share of unexpected hurdles.

In this case, it was the location itself. “We filmed in an apartment that had cats, which we knew going in,” she laughs. “What we didn’t realize was that three people on set were very allergic, including our director, Julio. Between takes, he’d be out on the balcony trying to breathe. Not ideal.”

Moments like that only added to the unpredictable, scrappy charm of the production, a reminder of the passion and persistence that often fuel independent storytelling.

For van Tooren, projects like Impossible and Unstoppable represent more than just a creative outlet, they’re an extension of her larger artistic identity. As both an actor and a writer, she continues to seek out stories that allow her to explore different sides of her craft, from grounded, emotionally complex roles to lighter, comedic performances that showcase timing and instinct.

It’s that balance, between discipline and play, structure and spontaneity, that continues to shape her approach. And while the tone of Impossible and Unstoppable may be light, the intention behind it is anything but. It’s another step forward for an artist who understands that range is not just about what you can do, but how fully you commit to each new challenge.

Because whether she’s stepping into an original role or reimagining a fan-favorite character, Nickey van Tooren approaches every project the same way, with preparation, perspective, and a willingness to make it entirely her own.
