Winners: 2016 Gotham Awards

It’s the first major awards of the season, and though not all-encompassing the Gotham Awards are considered a good momentum setter for the Oscars. In this sense, Moonlight has taken a spectacular lead, as it swept Gotham with four awards including Best Feature.

Manchester by the Sea won for Best Actor, though Denzel Washington was not among the nominees and this will be his biggest challenge at the Academy Awards, while La La Film and Silence were also not eligible here.

What this signals is a major new contender in awards season. Four of the past Gotham Best Feature winners have also won Best Picture at the Oscars, so watch out for Moonlight because we now have a major contender on our hands.
