Jackson Fights Back Over ‘Hobbit’ Criticism!
Technological leaps have become the norm in cinema in modern times. James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ laying the foundations for Hollywood hotshots everywhere being whipped into a three dimensional frenzy, a mere example of this. Director of King Kong and the LOTR trilogy Peter Jackson is no stranger to pushing the boundaries either..
Once confirmed he was on board for the big budget adaptation of J.R.R Tolkien’s ‘The Hobbit’, he declared that filming would be in 48fps. Elaborating on this, 24fps has been the standard frame rate in the film industry throughout its illustrious history. The advancements being thrown around for such a decision, have included crisper imagery and a truer sense of authenticity on display.
A 10 minute teaser at this week’s ‘CinemaCon’ event expected to raise the anticipation levels for the December 2012 release.. but Jackson certainly wouldn’t have seen coming the critical mauling it received. Such comments of the footage having the distinct look of a ‘made for BBC movie’ being particularly stinging.
Passionate as ever, Jackson has moved quick to address the concerns. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Peter stated that the technological side of cinema will always continue to ‘evolve‘. In addition..
‘At first it’s unusual because you’ve never seen a movie like this before. It’s literally a new experience, but that doesn’t last the entire experience of the film.’
Referring back to James Cameron, he’s already set to up the ante in a similar vein for his ‘Avatar’ sequel so we sense the argument won’t be settled anytime soon. But considering Jackson’s track record, i wouldn’t write him or his Middle Earth buddies off just yet!
