Identity Thief Snatches US Top Spot!
Luckily for the comedic duo of Jason Bateman (Horrible Bosses) and Melissa Mccarthy (Bridesmaids) this weekend, the zombie romance between Nicholas Hoult and Teresa Palmer proved limited in its ‘signs of life’.
Scoring one of the biggest box office openings in the US for an original comedy with a R certificate, ‘Identity Thief’ despite an underwhelming set of reviews took the top spot with ease, with a taking of $34.6 million. Whilst last week’s champion ‘Warm Bodies’, settled for the runner-up position pouring $11.3 million into Summit Entertainment’s kitty.
It was also a weekend, where Magic Mike director Steven Soderbergh unleashed his reported ‘final’ project before he comes accustomed with retirement. Boasting the likes of Channing Tatum (Haywire) and Ro0ney Mara (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo), ‘Side Effects’ didn’t quite perform as well as many anticipated with only $9.3 million for its efforts.
Here’s the full rundown:
1. Identity Thief $34.6 million
2. Warm Bodies $11.3 million
3. Side Effects $9.3 million
4. Silver Linings Playbook $6.4 million
5. Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters $5.7 million
6. Mama $4.2 million
7. Zero Dark Thirty $4 million
8. Argo $2.37 million
9. Django Unchained $2.3 million
10. Bullet To The Head $2 million
