In Memoriam: Richard Griffiths!
Today is a particularly sad day for the British cinema scene, as we’ve been met with the unfortunate news that actor Richard Griffiths has died at the age of 65. Such tragedy brought on by complications after heart surgery, Griffiths graced many a screen both small and big as well as the theatrical stage.
To the younger contingent, he will long be remembered as Uncle Vernon from the hugely successful adaptations of the Harry Potter books.
To the more generously aged among us, his iconic roles alongside Richard E. Grant as Uncle Monty in Withnail and I as well as starring in both the stage and film versions of Alan Bennett’s ‘The History Boys’ will always hold a firm place in many a cinema lover’s heart.
Taking to his Twitter account, E. Grant has paid tribute to the actor stating:
‘My beloved ‘Uncle Monty’ Richard Griffiths died last night. Chin-chin my dear friend.’
Wonderful in his undeniable versatility and sheer wit, he will be dearly missed. R.I.P.
