Light House Programme – June
With 2015 marking the 70th anniversary of V.E. Day and the end of World War 2, the June line-up at Light House starts in lavish fashion with ‘A Royal Night Out’. To mark another occasion in the form of Artsfest hosted by the University Of Wolverhampton, there will be a rare chance to see Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘The Birds’ along with Gary Oldman’s hard-hitting ‘Nil By Mouth’ on the big screen.
Speaking of doubles, Midland audiences will be treated to a healthy albeit contrasting doses of Tom Hardy this month. Taking the reins from Mel Gibson, he revives the Road Warrior Mad Max in ‘Fury Road’, whilst warming up his vocal chords alongside Olivia Colman for the film version of acclaimed stage show ‘London Road’.
Mad Max isn’t the only 80’s cinematic commodity returning, as star of ‘Moon’ and ‘The Way Way Back’ Sam Rockwell heads up a remake of horror classic ‘Poltergeist’. Thinking the rom-com genre has become too cynical and quirky for its own good? Simon Pegg and Lake Bell are eager to remedy in Ben Palmer’s (The Inbetweeners Movie) ‘Man Up’.
Not an immediate companion piece to Richard Linklater’s 12-year passion project, multi-award winning ‘Girlhood’ directed by Celine Sciamma graces the ‘House’. In addition, the Binoche/Stewart double-hander ‘Clouds of Sils Maria’, which earned Kristen a Best Supporting Actress Cesar Award and the prestige of being the first American actress to receive the honour.
