Twain to get the 21st Century treatment
Paramount Studios have picked up the treatment for Huck, a 21st Century rendition of Mark Twain’s classic heroes with the screenplay due for a modern ‘re-imagining’ of the adventurous heroes.
Little is being revealed thus far story-wise but early indications suggest the film will be in a similar vein to the current treatment Snow White and the Huntsman is receiving with the focus on adult versions of the characters and supernatural elements potentially at play.
Peter Chernin, Dylan Clark and Matt Lopez are currently attached to produce the spec from Andy Burg. Chernin and Clark aren’t far removed from success on Fox’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes and are currently overseeing Universal’s Tom Cruise sci-fi vehicle Oblivion. Lopez’s recent ventures include family features Bedtime Stories and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.
This won’t be the first screen venture for Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer with a host of appearances down the years, the last of which, a Disney production, released in 1995.
